Furthermore, the erasure of square profile frames has left users adrift in a sea of unwanted circular conformity. The square was not just a shape; it was an identity, a testament to Tumblr’s defiance against the homogenization of social media design. To take this from us is to strip away a piece of what makes this platform extraordinary.
The people of Tumblr do not ask for much. We revel in the nonsensical, the ridiculous, the joyously strange. It is within your power to right this wrong, to restore what was lost, and to uphold the very essence of what makes Tumblr the beloved digital home it is. Bring back the Boops. Return to us our squares. Let April 1st once again be a day of delight, not despair.

To whom it may concern at the grand kingdom of Tumblr,
I stand before you today—heart full, mind burning with righteous fury, on the matter of a most grievous and utterly unnecessary change that has been thrust upon us, the users of this sacred space: the removal of square profile pictures.
What is a profile picture, if not the very cornerstone of our digital identity? It is more than a mere avatar; it is the flag under which we proudly march, a visual representation of our essence, our personality, our online soul. And now, Tumblr, you dare to strip us of our square-shaped haven, replacing it with some half-hearted, alien circular form?
How could you, Tumblr? How could you forsake a timeless shape- one that has been a symbol of balance, symmetry, and pure aesthetic delight? The square is a bastion of order, a visual foundation that anchors the chaos of the internet. We have known it, loved it, and, in its corners, have found solace.
This change, however, dismembers that foundation. It contorts our carefully crafted digital selves into something unrecognizable, something fragmented. A circle may be round and infinite in theory, but in the space of personal expression, it represents confinement. It traps our faces, our artwork, our essence into a boundary that does not suit all that we are. Does it not strike you as ironic? You claim to champion individuality, yet you demand we conform to a singular, round hole that fits no one quite right.
The square, Tumblr, was not just a shape, it was our rebellion. It was the space where our uniqueness bloomed freely, unrestricted by arbitrary geometrical limitations. With the square, we found room for our creative ingenuity. It was never about perfection; it was about freedom. And now, we must ask: What is freedom without the square?
If this change is allowed to stand, we risk erasing a piece of ourselves. For many of us, that square profile picture is the first place we truly felt seen, the first place we dared to reflect our truth, no matter how raw, how complex, or how bold. Will we be denied that truth now? Will we surrender that vital piece of self-expression, that vital piece of Tumblr history, to appease an aesthetic decision that robs us of our identity?
We do not ask for perfection. We ask for the freedom to exist in the form that best reflects our vision, our art, and our selves. And if the square must fall, let it fall only by the will of the people, not by the silent decree of an algorithmic tyranny.
I urge you, Tumblr, no, we demand you reinstate the square profile picture. Restore our space of expression, our freedom of form. Do not let the winds of change blow so carelessly that they erase the very heart of what made this platform so unique. The square was, and will always be, a beautiful, honest, and powerful vessel for us all.
Let us rise, together, as creators, as individuals, and as one united force.
