Alabanda Ancient City, whose name was first encountered in the Hittite texts, is today 7 km away from Çine District of Aydın Province and is located to the west of the Marsyas Stream. The city, which extends towards the plain from the slopes of two small hills that are extensions of the Gökbel Mountains, has fertile agricultural lands. According to Strabon, it was named after King Kar's son Alabandos; the first concrete finds in Alabanda, one of the three important cities of the Inner Caria Region, date back to the Classical Period. However, the most surviving structures in the city belong to the Hellenistic Period. The most important of these structures; include the Classical Period Chamber Tomb, Columbarium, Temple of Dionysus, Temple of Apollo Isotimos, Temple of Artemis, Central Bath, Eastern Bath, Theater, Agora and Bouleuterion. Excavations in Bouleuterion, which is the subject of the study started in 2017. In these systematically ongoing studies, the plan scheme of the building was revealed. To date in addition to the architectural details of the building, many architecturally decorated elements, inscriptions, sculpture pieces, metal and glass finds that are important for the dating of the

The chapters are organised according to the themes of Cities (chapters 2-4), Landscapes (chapter 5-11) and Material Culture (Chapters 12-14). The volume derives from a conference, which was planned for March 2020 in Rome, but cancelled due to the outbreak of COVID-19. It is the second publication in Brepols' new series on the Archaeology of the Mediterranean World.

Antik dönemlerden günümüze kalıntıların ve yapıların bulunduğu Stratonikeia antik kentinde ve Lagina Kutsal Alanı’nda kalabalık bir ekip ile arkeolojik kazı, araştırma, konservasyon, restorasyon ve çizim çalışmaları sürdürülmektedir. Tüm bu çalışmaların yanı sıra, ortaya çıkarılan kalıntı ve eserler ile yapılan tespitlerin araştırmacı ve bilim camiasına duyurulması çok önemlidir. Bu sayede yapılan çalışmaların sonuçlarının bilinirliği artmakta, daha geniş bir kitlenin ele geçen buluntu ve yapılan tespitlerden yararlanması sağlanabilmektedir. Yapılan çalışmalarda doğru tespitlerin, uzmanları tarafından ortaya konulması ve değerlendirilmesi amacıyla kalabalık bir ekip ile çalışmalar yürütülmektedir. Kentte yapılan çalışmalara katılan araştırmacıların yazıları daha önceki kazı bandlarında olduğu gibi tek, iki ve çok yazarlı olarak yayımlanmaktadır. Bölümlerden oluşan ve ilk yayımlanan Stratonikeia Çalışmaları 1: Stratonikeia Çevresi Araştırmaları, kitabında olduğu gibi ayrı yazılardan oluşmaktadır. Stratonikeia Çalışmaları 4: Mimari, Heykel ve Küçük Buluntu Araştırmaları kitabı da benzer çalışmalardan birisi olarak hazırlandı. Yazılar son yıllarda yapılan araştırmaların sonuçları ve tamamlanan tezlerin bölümleri şeklindedir. Benzer şekilde yayınlara devam edilecek ve bu kazı bandı serisinin devamı olarak sizlerin hizmetine sunulacaktır.

This study analyzes a group of plinths and capitals recovered during the excavations in the Northwest Necropolis Church of Hadrianopolis. Accordingly, it is revealed that the plinths and capitals, which are typologically diverse, are similar to the same type of artefacts previously discovered in the city and the structure, and that they belong to the second phase of the church, which has two construction phases. This period covers the second half of the 5th century AD and the 6th century. Taken together with the previous research, it appears that the plinths and capitals may have been produced by local craftsmen from material obtained from the quarries around Hadrianopolis. Incomplete artefacts found in the city and the use of spolia also support this view. The forms and different sizes of the column bases and capitals reveal that the church had colonnaded galleries on the upper floor, and in this context, larger and elaborately carved plinths may have been used on the lower floor.

T h e r e a r e t w o i m p o r t a n t a n d e x c i t i n g developments that we would like to share with friends of Phoenix in the run-up to 2024. The first and most important of these is that Söktaş A.Ş. and the Kayhan family will be the sole and main supporters of the Phoenix Archaeological Project (PAP) from 2024. Söktaş A.Ş., which has been instrumental in ensuring that the project has achieved its long-term and horizontal goals, and we would like to thank all members of the Kayhan family, especially Mr Muharrem Kayhan and Mr Hilmi Kayhan. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all the institutions and organisations that have kept the project alive through their support in conducting scientific research since 2021. Another milestone in 2024 was the founding of the 'Historical Phoenix Archaeology Association' in the village of Taşlıca under the patronage of Mr Muharrem Kayhan and Mr Hilmi Kayhan. The association, which has the essential task of carrying out scientific excavations and surface research, documenting and protecting the cultural heritage and passing it on to future generations, is a nongovernmental organisation that works according to the principle of overriding public interest through programmes and events with social responsibility. We would like to express our respect and gratitude to the Kayhan family, the Güven law firm and all board members who have contributed to the foundation and operation of the association.

Both the excavations in Miletos and the excavations in the Ionian colonies of the Archaic Period show that Milesian or South Ionian amphorae can be traced from the late 8th and early 7th centuries BC. It is not yet possible to answer the question whether commercial amphora production started in Cnidos or Coastal Caria during this period.

The problem that the suggestion that there are different production centers in Caria, especially Palaia Cnidos in the Milesian type, does not find a response in terms of production workshops or waste production, or that these examples are not published? Commercial amphorae of the Milesian type, but also produced in centers other than Miletus, have a market share in overseas centers, especially in the Black Sea, beyond the regional demand?

The author publishes three new decrees from the Antigonid period that were discovered during the 2017 excavation campaign in Euromos in the sanctuary of Zeus Lepsynos. The first two decrees were engraved on a tall stele and honour Podilos, philos, and Charmadas, phrourarchos of king Antigonos III Doson (229–221). We learn that they were brothers and came from the city of Lykastos on Crete. This is the first inscription from Caria in which Doson is mentioned, and the first evidence of a philos for this king. In the decree honouring Podilos, Euromos is described as being in a state of weakness. The second stele contains a decree honouring Lakrines, strategos of king Philip V (221–179). Lakrines was also a Cretan from the city of Polyrrhenia and must have been the successor of Olympichos who is known from several inscriptions. These three decrees are commented on and discussed in their historical context.

A surprising alternative to the usually accepted version. The Australian built work takes Pliny and Hyginus at face value, reassessing the accuracy of the usual English translations. Serious consideration is given to the Plan of the overall site, by Newton & Pullan, proposing an 8 x 12 column configuration. Current archaeological findings are a better fit in the Australian work, resolving the dilemmas in Danish research. This study focuses on measurements.

The period denominated as Early Bronze Age(henceforward EBA) in Anatolia corresponding approximately to the millennial period between3000-2000 B.C. represents a significant period with some major turning points in the history of the mankind. Beside radical changes observed in cultural, social, economical and political structures this period is characterized by a series of events such as the appearance of large, fortified settlements reflecting the central authority, the development of different crafts, innovations and developments in the field of metallurgy, the appearance and wide distribution of different pottery types and long-distance trade activities (Şahoğlu, 2005:339). The increasing need on raw materials and the efforts on gaining ascendancy over trade routes triggered the conflicts between different political entities. If we consider Anatolia as a single landmass, it is not possible to mention a homogenous structure during any period throughout the history. The topographic structures, geographical features and climatic conditions shaped on such features resulted in the formation of distinct regions delineated with natural geographical barriers and the appearance of divergent cultures with different characteristics flourished in such cultural zones. The cultures that evolved in distinct regions of Anatolia in the 3 rd Millennium B.C. not only reflect unique characteristics, but also presented close relations and interactions with the adjacent cultural zones. The impressions of such mutually developing interactions can be observed on all archaeological materials, from architecture to pottery, from burial traditions to the small finds. Although the developments and advancements experienced during this period can be observed throughout Anatolia comprehensively, Western Anatolia has been represented with limited number of centres for many years. Yet the excavations at Troia, started at an early date in 1870s, laid the foundations of Prehistoric Aegean Archaeology, it remained as an isolated centre for many years regarding the Anatolian coast, while this region rather came into prominence with the splendour and monumental remains of the cities of Classical periods. Beside the limited number of researches, the magnificence of the powerful Classical cultures in the region and the notion that the region lacked strong preceding cultures and that its actual potential emerged and advanced through the migrations in the 1 st Millennium B.C. further influenced this view. In spite of this, the excavations and researches conducted at the other side of the Aegean and at the islands continued with an increasing pace. Starting from 1980s, however, the ever increasing number of excavations and studies initiated throughout Western Anatolia, both at the coastline and inland zones, started to reveal the cultural development

Antik Myndos Kenti, Karia Bölgesi’nin önemli yerleşim yerlerinden birisidir. Makale konusu olan Ayazma ise bu antik kentin Liman Yapısı’nda bulunmaktadır. Çalışmanın ilk bölümünde liman girişinde yer alan yapı kalıntısında 3 sezon sürdürülen kazı çalışmaları anlatılmıştır. Burada Liman Yapısındaki ayazma kuyusunun ve mozaikli alanın bulunduğu odalar mimari açıdan değerlendirilip ana hatlarıyla ortaya konmuştur. Torba, Sardes ve Kos mozaikleri stil ve motif özellikleri açısından Myndos Liman yapısındaki mozaikle çok yakın benzerlik göstermektedir.
Söz konusu mozaikler MS Geç 5. Erken 6. yüzyıla tarihlenmektedir. Bu durum aynı zamanda Myndos Ayazması’nın tarihine de ışık tutmaktadır. Tatlı su kuyusunun bulunduğu arka oda da üzeri haç motifli birçok mermer plaka ve freskolu sıva parçalarının bulunması burasının daha önce kutsal bir amaca hizmet eden yapı olduğunu düşündürmektedir. Bu alanda henüz kazılar tamamlanamamış olsa da Liman Yapısının Ayazma olarak inşa edilmiş olduğu düşünülmektedir.

Arkeoloji Anabilim Dalı Arkeoloji Programı Eski Smyrna'daki küçük Aiol başlıkları üzerine yapılan bu çalışmada, dikey volütlü Aiol sütun başlıklarının kökenleri ve Yunan kentlerindeki yayılımı kısaca değerlendirilmiştir. Küçük Aiol başlıklarının Athena Tapınağı ile olası ilişkisini irdelemek amacıyla Tapınağın inşa süreçleri ve ilişkili Aiol mimarlığı sütun elemanları incelenmiştir. Küçük Aiol başlıklarının Aiol mimarlığı içinde oturduğu zemin, tipolojik özellikleri, benzer örnekleri tartışılmış, ölçüleri ve mevcut durumları hakkındaki bilgiler sunulmuştur. Ayrıntılı çizimleri ilk kez bu çalışma kapsamında yapılan başlıklarla uyum sağlayabilecek sütun tamburu örnekleri incelenmiş ve rekonstrüksiyon önerisi sunan çizimleri yapılmıştır. Başlıkların kronolojisi ile Athena Tapınağı'nın uyumlu evrelerine değinilerek, kullanım alanları için öneriler sunulmuştur. Eski Smyrna'da 1990'lı yıllardaki kazı çalışmalarında ortaya çıkartılan ve Aiol mimarlığının gelişim süreci içerisinde önemli bir yer tutan küçük Aiol başlıklarının buluntu yeri, kullanım alanları gibi soruların cevaplanmaya çalışıldığı bu tezin amaçlarından biri de küçük Aiol başlıkları hakkındaki bilgi eksikliklerini giderip ilgili literatüre katkı sağlamaktır.

Serpil AYTÜRE * Özet Poseidon Helikonios kültü, M.Ö.1200 civarında gerçekleştiği varsayılan Ege göçleri sürecinde Hellas'ın Helike bölgesinden gelen İon kökenli göçmenler kanalıyla Küçük Asya'ya getirilmiştir. Bu göçmenler politik kimliği de olduğu bilinen Panionion'u oluşturup, bu bölgeyi merkez alarak, Poseidon Helikonios kültü etrafında kültürel ve etnik kimliklerini korumayı başarmışlardır. Hellas'ın ve Küçük Asya'nın çeşitli bölgelerindeki Poseidon kültleri ile kökeni ve tapınımı açısından bazı farklılıklar gösteren kültün varlığı, Arkaik dönemden Roma egemenliğine kadar sürmüştür. Bununla birlikte bu süreç içinde birçok özelliğini kaybetmiştir. Bu çalışma söz konusu dönemde kültün geçirdiği değişimleri ortaya koymaya çalışmaktadır.

Après des prospections autour du lac de Yarışlı, nous avons poursuivi nos recherches dans la région 1 en allant de ce lac à celui de Burdur, nommé Askania 2 dans l'Antiquité, puis en remontant au Nord jusqu'à la région d'Aulutrene où se trouvent la source commune du Méandre et du Marsyas et un lac couvert de roseaux, le Deniz Gölü 3. Nous avons également prospecté à l'Est de cette région, dans les montagnes au Sud d'Isparta. La zone concernée est vaste et nous n'avons pu l'examiner complètement en une seule campagne. Nous ne livrons donc ici que les premiers résultats sur les lieux étudiés minutieusement.

Les résultats des recherches que nous présentons ci-dessous sont le fruit de plusieurs campagnes de prospections menées en Pisidie, dans la Région des Lacs, dans les provinces de Burdur et d'Isparta 1. Chaque campagne offre un lot varié de découvertes et nous avons fait le choix de publier, chaque année, ce qui nous semblait le plus intéressant pour la connaissance d'un site 2. Cette année encore notre attention se portera plus particulièrement sur la nécropole de Takina et les environs du lac de Yarışlı (cf. Carte, Fig. 1). Mais d'autres documents collectés dans la région, particulièrement les inédits et aussi ceux dont la révision est nécessaire, ne méritent pas de rester dans l'ombre. C'est pourquoi le lecteur trouvera dans cet article, dont la thématique est funéraire, des inscriptions d'une autre nature.

Antik Mobolla yerleşiminin günümüze ulaşan kalıntıları Muğla İl merkezinin kuzeyindeki korunaklı ve düz zirveli bir yükselti olan Asar Tepe (Masadağ) üzerinde ve yakın çevresinde bulunmaktadır. Konumu dolayısıyla Atina Vergi Listeleri'inde kaydı bulunmayan yerleşimin Klasik Dönem'de ve öncesinde hangi isimle anıldığı henüz epigrafik bir belgede ya da bir antik metinde tespit edilmemiştir. Buna karşın yerleşimin eril (masculinum) ethikonu olan Μοβωλλεύς, MÖ III. yüzyılın ikinci yarısına tarihlenen 1 ve Akçaova'da bulunan bir yazıt 2 aracılığı ile bilinmektedir. Bu ethnikon MÖ 100-61 yılları arasına tarihlenen 3 ve Muğla'da bulunmuş diğer bir yazıt 4 ile tasdik edilmektedir. Μοβωλλεύς ethikonu doğrultusunda yerleşimin adı neutrum pluralis Μόβωλλ/α/ (Mobolla) olmalıdır. 5 Bu adın ne zamandan beri kullanıldığı kesin olarak bilinmemekle birlikte, MÖ III. yüzyıl ve sonrasında kenti tanımladığı bilinen Mobolla (Μόβωλλα) ismi, olasılıkla Karca kökenlidir ve kentin güvenilir belgelerle tespit edilen en erken tarihli ismidir; Kalymnos'ta bulunmuş ve MÖ III. yüzyıla tarihlenen bir

cam alabastron bulunmaktadır. Amacımız, üzerinde fazla çalışmanın yapılmadığı ve Anadolu’da benzerlerine
az rastlanan örneğimiz ışığında, Hellenistik Dönem seramik- cam tipoloji ve kronoloji çalışmalarına
katkıda bulunmaktır

A grave which consisted of Hellenistic and Roman material was found in the excavations of the Muğla Museum in the Stratonikeia-Akdağ Necropolis area in 1999. A glass alabastron dated to the Hellenistic times was found with the grave material. The aim in this study is to introduce the rare sample of these glass alabastra in Anatolia and to contribute to the Hellenistic typological and chronological studies. Core formed vessels was numerous and widespread in the Mediterranean area from the third millenium B.C. The most common types were the alabastra, oinokhoes, unguentaria, amphoriskoi and jugs. The alabastra usually translucent dark or cobalt blue glass and the decoration consists of opaque orange, yellow, white or turquise trails from the sixth century BCE to the Hellenistic times. The alabastron of Stratonikeia-Akdağ is well preseved of dark blue glass and has yellow trails on the body. It has broad horizontal rim disk, short cylindrical neck, fusifom body and convex pointed bottom. It must be dated to the middle of the second century BCE.

The question of the placement of the inscriptions of the temple of Lagina has only
recently become the subject of epigraphic research again. Due to new building investigations,
it is now possible to determine the exact location of some of the most
important historical inscriptions. This applies in particular for the Senatus consultum
from 81 B.C., the so-called Anta-decree and some of the oldest priestly inscriptions.
It will be argued that the Senatus consultum was placed on the left outer wall of
the Pronaos and the ›Anta-decree‹ on the front of the right anta, while the priestly
inscriptions, starting from the anta, covered the entire right outer wall of the pronaos
and naos.

tüm dünyanın eşsiz yörelerinden biridir. Jeolojik olarak Anadolu Yarımadası’nın en eski  topraklarını barındırmakla birlikte, yaklaşık 8 bin yıl öncesinden günümüze kadar süregelen insan yaşam izleriyle sahiplenmemiz, korumamız ve geleceğe taşımamız gereken çok değerli bir mücevherdir.

Latmos is the oldest known name of a mountainous region in Western Anatolia, within the borders of Aydın and Muğla.
This region, a part of which is today called Beşparmak Mountain, is one of the unique regions not only of Anatolia but also of the whole world, with the geological and cultural heritage elements it carries within its borders extending from Büyük Menderes Plain to Milas Plain, from Karpuzlu Plain to Söke Plain.
Although it geologically contains the oldest lands of the Anatolian Peninsula, it is a very valuable jewel that we must own, protect and carry to the future with traces of human life from approximately 8 thousand years ago to the present day.

The ancient city of Mastaura is in a valley surrounded by high hills on the borders of Bozyurt, Dereağzı and Eycelli neighborhoods of Nazilli District of Aydın Province. The city was founded on fertile lands irrigated by the Kharysaoris Stream flowing into the Maiandros River. It is located close to the Capu Viae trade route, which starts from Ephesos and progresses to Kelainai. Archaeological data documented as belonging to the Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman Periods have been identified in the city. Since the 18th century, it has been the subject of some studies, attracting the attention of travelers and researchers. Archaeological studies initiated by S. Akkurnaz since 2020 are still continuing. The article presented here aims to introduce the observations and available data regarding the water supply in the territory of Mastaura. Firstly, the water transmission systems of the city were examined under two headings as north and south. Among these structures, components of water systems such as aqueduct, terracotta pipe, canal on the wall line and waste water line were evaluated. Then, subjects such as construction techniques of water transmission systems, construction materials and gps coordinates were tried to be conveyed. Today, water-related structures are partially, if not completely preserved, and some are observable on the surface. In line with the aforementioned data, the coordinates of the buildings were transferred to the topographic map of the city. In this way, the visibility of the structures belonging to the waterway on the map was ensured, and the first investigations were made on the city's clean water supply and waste water line in the light of the available data.

The ancient city of Mastaura is located among the neighborhoods of Bozyurt, Dereağzı and Eycelli, 3 kilometers north of Nazilli District in the province of Aydın. It is one of the major  cities along the old Caput Viae road, which connected the Aegean coast to the interior of Anatolia. The city is located in the valley where the Khrysaoris brook, one of the northern tributaries connected to the Maiandros River, passes in the parts where the Messogis (Aydın Mountains) meets the plain. It is bordered by steep slopes and large and tiny hills. The city has been frequented by visitors and researchers in Nazilli and its environs since the 18th century. Since 2020, modern archaeological studies have been started. The city's archaeological records contain information from the Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman eras. This study examines two ornamented architectural blocks. These are the M1 embellished lintel-frieze block and the M2 corner crown block. Lesbos kymation, Ionic kymation, and anthemion decorations on the blocks were compared with various specimens in terms of typological and stylistic characteristics, and their developmental stage was determined. The intermediate leaf tips of the Lesbos kymation ornament in M1 produce a concave fold and acquire the appearance of a volute, which is a distinctive characteristic. The Ionic kymation and anthemion ornaments in M2 closely resemble the classically utilized embellishments in Anatolia's architectural field. Based on our research, the M1 and M2 architectural blocks can be dated to the second half of the second century BC and the first half of the first century AD.

It is not clear to me on what count is based Obrador-Cursach's statement (2020a, 38) that the letter no. 20 'occurs twenty-three times in twenty-one different inscriptions'. Somewhat further in the text he mentions only 17 inscriptions (erroneously citing NW-121 twice), including those featuring .

The multi-purposed archaeological intensive field surveys were continued in the southern chora of the ancient Phoenix/Phoinix (Carian Chersonese) in 2023. The third year of the fieldwork have been unearthed the agricultural units such as olive oil and wine workshops that shows the production scale of the region. The studies expanded through the ancient Casara, the southern neighbor of the Phoenix. It is understood that Asardibi was the fortified acropolis of the site and It covered with the stepped base-pyramidal tombs. We recorded a teloneion, defense units, graves and churches which connected with ancient roads. Beside, the research also unearthed the harbour organization of the Serçeliman (Portus Cressa) with the other elements of the cultural landscape. In this paper, we aim to present and contextualize the multi-layered material culture of the Phoenix.

A distinctive feature of Babylonian onomastics in the first millennium BCE is the use of family names at most cities by a segment of the population that can be described as the urban notable class. These family names are common and the conventions for their usage are well established in the abundant legal and administrative tablets that date from the so-called 'long sixth century': the period stretching from Nabopolassar's first regnal year in 625 to Xerxes I's suppression of the Babylonian revolts in 484 (Jursa et al. 2010, 2-5). The use of family names emerged during the preceding eighth and seventh centuries, and the antecedents of some families and family names can be traced even further back in time to the early first millennium or even the latter part of the second millennium. Furthermore, some of these families persisted into the latter half of the first millennium BCE, as demonstrated by the continued presence of family names in Seleucid-era tablets. Usage of family names at all times appears to have been restricted. Non-Babylonians never had family names, and only Babylonians of a certain social status were identified in texts with family names. Where the line of social demarcation lay is difficult to determine. Slaves and people of servile status, such as temple oblates, did not have family names, but neither did some men who had sufficient wealth to purchase land associated with the temple (Nielsen 2015b, 101), suggesting that an element of familial pedigree was involved. One could not simply adopt a family name. As a consequence, an understanding of the norms of family-name usage and an ability to identify them in Neo-Babylonian texts is essential for comprehending how individuals from the urban notable class functioned politically, economically, and socially. After a discussion of the origins of family names in Babylonian society, we will present an overview of the types of family names that were in existence and then outline the different ways in which family names were recorded in texts, before concluding with some comments on the geographical distribution of family names throughout Babylonia.

Erken Tunç Çağı: ETÇ olarak kullanılmalıdır. * Bölge adlarının ilk harfleri, aynı şekilde yer, coğrafya ve kurum adlarının ilk harfleri büyük yazılmalıdır.
