Part 1. Interview
Hi, my name is _______, and I’m your interviewer. How are you today?
For the record, can you please tell me your complete name and home address?
No working environment is perfect and there is always room for improvements. What additions
or changes would you make to your working environment to make it more comfortable or
enjoyable?
Part 2. Role-Play
Note: The interviewer narrates the situation and plays the role of the pilot. The test taker is the
controller and responds to the situation and/or message.
Task A. Situation 1
Imagine you are working as a tower controller. The runway in use is runway two two. Surface
wind is two zero zero degrees at one two knots. QNH is one zero one five hectopascals.
Alpha Sierra zero two five two, will be calling you with a position report. Listen to the pilot's
message, then instruct the pilot to join base in a right hand pattern for the active runway while
providing the pilot with information about the surface wind and current QNH.
Look at the picture provided. You have 15 seconds to study the picture.
Bravo Zulu four six six seven has just vacated the runway and is awaiting taxi instructions.
Listen to the pilot's message, then provide detailed taxi instructions using the red line as a
guide.
Task C. Situation 3
Sierra November five four three eight has reported he is now airborne. You need to hand the
pilot over to Departure control on one three two decimal seven. Give the pilot instructions to
change his frequency to Departure control, then respond to the pilot’s message as required.
Part 3. Providing Information and Sharing Opinions
Many modern airports have a radar system that can depict where an aircraft is moving around
the airport on the ground. Do you have this kind of system at your airport?
If so, how well do you feel it works in assisting you with your job?
If not, would you feel more comfortable having a system like this to assist you in your day to
day duties? Why or why not?

aircraft currently in? How can you tell?
In your opinion, what is the most common cause of miscommunications over the radio? What
measures can be taken to reduce or eliminate these types of miscommunications?
