Inked Notebook

@inkednotebook / inkednotebook.tumblr.com

Jo/Jenna (she/her). Another queer, disabled creator. I write queer romance and fantasy novels, short stories, novellas, and prose poems. I also do art sometimes!

Inked Notebook - Introduction

About the Author

Hi, hello, you can call me Jo or Jenna. I am in my mid-20s and live in Nova Scotia, Canada (east coast). I am disabled with chronic pain and clinical depression, and I am likely autistic (in the process of getting diagnosed).

I am a greyace/demisexual lesbian (or, just queer works, too!). I use she/her pronouns, but gender's weird and I don't really care if you use they/them.

About the Writing

There are two genres I am most passionate about - queer romance and high, new adult fantasy (with queer characters).

I have many WIPs, but here are my main ones atm:

  • Icing Waved Off: Queer mlm hockey romance ft. teammates to lovers, friends to lovers, comphet, mental health rep, and sports themes (including the toxic masculinity of men's hockey). This is the first book in my Minnesota Minks series (following books are Home Ice Advantage and Clearing the Ice). [Tag; page; Pinterest board]
  • Keeper of the Wild: New adult, high fantasy ft. queer characters, magic, chosen-one adjacent themes, royalty, magic-borne creatures, and more. This is the first book in The Wild Trilogy (following books are King of the Wild and Queen of the Wild). [Tag; page; Pinterest board]
  • Aces Are Wild: A collection of 4 related but stand-alone novellas centring around ace/ace-spectrum characters, ft. romance, no romance, trans and nb characters, comphet, self discovery, disability rep, and older characters (30+). [Tag; page]
  • Princess and the Pop-Up: Queer, sapphic romance ft. college softball, academic vibes/themes, older students (early - mid-20s), self discovery. This is a spin-off of Icing, in which one of the MCs is the sister of an Icing character! [Tag; page; Pinterest board]

About the Art

I am a self-taught, amateur artist. I enjoy various mediums, including watercolour and acrylic paint, sketching/drawing, and digital art. I also enjoy crafts such as cross-stitch, loom-knitting, Perler Beads, and kits from stores!

I'm working on getting stuff ready to sell some stuff (e.g., prints and cards, homemade stickers, Perler Bead earrings + ornaments + coasters, bookmarks) but in the meantime, I have a Redbubble under a different name.

WIP Folder Tag

Post all the headings under the folder/section for your WIP, and people can send asks about titles that interest them

Thanks @willtheweaver for the tag! Ones with the folder emoji are, you guessed it, folders lol. Ones without are just docs within the main folder. Ones with a star are ones I'm actually writing, and ones without are just ideas/outlines/abandoned.

it's so weird to me that everyone on this website is a human person outside of their weird internet niche so rb this with a random bit of your lore

I have a birthmark smack dab in between my eyebrows.

I like it when ppl play with my hair :)

I think I have adhd and also I really like coffee (:

all my moots. if you see this and are my moot, its the same as tagging you cuz theres a lot of you guys>>>

and anuone else ofc

I love the smell of books, ESPECIALLY old ones

Everyone :P

i have this mole on my ear and people often ask if it’s a second piercing cause it’s right where a second piercing might be

@/anyyyy

I can't sleep unless the fan is on bc it's too FREAKING HOT IN MY ROOM AND I CANT BREATHE but then I wake up and get sad bc it's just so cold

@ anyone :3

I'm not a people

Also i have a water bottle COVERED in stickers that i carry everywhere

I grew mold in a jar filled with orange juice but it stopped growing

I collect radioactive things as a hobby!

I love to collect jewelry, shiny rocks and adorable plushies!!

@yumedoca @letsgetitblog @localcanadiancreature62 @whoever wants to participate!!!

one side of my rib cage is flat because i always sleep on that side (it doesnt cause issues dw) and i have a surgical scar in the shape of a lightning bolt which resulted in the nickname mary potter when i was a kid

I have this habit of doodling a little something on everything I hold dear,,may it be my favourite books, bags, pencil cases, pants, or even people lol.

thank youuuuu for the tag pookie :3

i own about 170 books at the moment and i aim to own at least 1000 before i die (of old age that is, im not accounting for my untimely departure)

i've definitely read more books than that cuz i've been a member of the district library for 8+ years

I don't like cleaning up and organising stuff...except my books..

also I have a crooked eyebrow?..cz when I was four or five..I shaved one of my brows completely and then it just grew back crookedly

once when i was a kid, i fell down my bed when i was sleeping, bust my chin, and had to get stitches. bonus points I felt NO PAIN at all, like zero, idk how.

umm also, i love randomly researching on things that have nothing to do with my grade, and/or will probably never come in use!! lmao

My hair is so long it almost reaches my knees and I take a book (or three) with me pretty much everywhere I go even if I don't end up reading them.

Lowkey I am so violently uninteresting that the weirdest fact about me is my notebook collection, which has been going since like seventh grade and is at about thirty

I have a flash in my room that has the goose from the untitled goose game on it holding a butter knife and saying Peace Was Never An Option and its my favorite thing in my room

I have 400+ books (all which I’ve read) and a scar under my eye that I’ve had since I was a baby.

I’ve forgotten like all of my moots but you’re all welcome to reblog

I have a stutter and it makes talking difficult (probably why I'm chronically online)

I've also fallen down my stairs 3 times with no injuries (other than 1 bloody nose)

I was the the leader of my local pagan moot for a decade. I stopped going in 2018 after a series of life events caused me to lose my faith in… well, pretty much everything.

I miss a world that doesn’t exist, and hate it when people put sugar in my tea

Also once fractured my nose by opening a cupboard door into it

I have over 1700 hockey cards and they're all neatly organized in binders

Playing around with Canva, visualizing how my chronicpain feels - both icy cold and burning, no good option, terrified of my rope breaking. Also represents the eternal struggle of trying to figure out what to do about the pain - ice? heat? just hang in there?

Writer ask tag

Thank you @mjparkerwriting for the tag!!

Doing this for my queer romance Icing Waved Off.

What is the main lesson of your story? Why did you choose it?

Hm. Self-acceptance for queer folks can be a lovely, but messy thing. There's no straight line (heheh) to it, and everyone's journeys are different. But no matter what your journey, or when you embarked on it, your feelings are valid. You are valid.

What did you use as inspiration for your worldbuilding?

The NHL. I mean, it's set in modern day North America within the league, but with made up teams. I used games and interviews I've watched, and articles I've read to help me piece together the behind the scenes of the game.

What is your MC trying to achieve, and what are you, the writer, trying to achieve with them? Do you want to inspire others, teach forgiveness, or help the reader grow as a person?

It's dual POV, so there are two answers. Teddy is trying to achieve an understanding of who he is and learn to accept that his life might not be what he had envisioned. James is trying to achieve a life where he doesn't have to hide who he is.

I think I'm trying to achieve a few things with them: learning to forgive myself for things I thought I felt or wanted, to help share queer stories and queer love, and to shine a light onto the toxic culture of male hockey.

I'm not really sure what I want to do with this story in those regards. Inspire other queers for sure, but... I don't know. I wrote this for myself first and foremost, so honestly was not thinking of the lesson or whatnot it might have.

How many chapters is your story going to have?

It's sitting at 26 right now!

Is it fanfiction or original content? Where do you plan to post it?

Ehh. Like I said, it's based on the NHL, and I'd be lying if I said fanfiction didn't play some role in inspiring me to write it, but it itself is all original content.

When did you start writing?

When I could write coherent sentences lol. I used to write little stories about talking animals and teddy bears, then it grew into Star Trek fanfiction when I was 14ish which sparked a love for longer stories.

Do you have any words of encouragement for fellow writers of writeblr? What other writers do you follow?

  • Write what you love, not what you think will sell!
  • If you can't afford to take creative writing workshops or post-secondary classes, try to see if your local library has any creative writing books! Seriously, the tips they can give you are amazing.
  • For writeblr specifically, I think just don't be discouraged if your posts don't get a lot of engagement. I've been on Tumblr a loooong time, and I get how disappointing it can be when you post creative content and it gets few reactions. But just keep at it - limited social media engagement does not mean your writing is bad or that you'll never make it as a writer.

I follow many writers, but I'll just tag a few if they want to do this: @kaylinalexanderbooks, @willtheweaver, @aalinaaaaaa, @theeccentricraven, @cc-writes-stuff, @bardic-tales, @write-with-will, and @illarian-rambling

author ask tag

Thank you @the-inkwell-variable and @oliolioxenfreewrites for tagging me. I had to think hard on these answers.

I'll use my current WIP for this. It was once called TLBH. Now, its WotG. We will see if it changes again.

What is the main lesson of your story? Why did you choose it?

I think the main lesson would be that there's always something bigger than you, and sometimes you have to decide whether or not that something is great enough for you to change as a person. My characters go through and will continue to go through a lot. They are constantly tested and while some of them rise above it all--no question about it, others struggle with every step. Some are never able to stand up at all.

What did you use as inspiration for your worldbuilding?

I used the real world as inspiration. I really like history and religion, so I studied tons of cultures and languages and historical events. I have a lot of mythology, history, and religion/philosophy books and links saved because I'm just so fascinated with how everyone sees and understands things differently.

What is your MC trying to achieve, and what are you, the writer, trying to achieve with them? Do you want to inspire others, teach forgiveness, or help the reader grow as a person?

It is multiple POV, but without giving away too much, I’d say that every character is searching for purpose and acceptance in one way or another. I think I, as the writer, want to show how motivations change as we change as people, and that's okay. I want to tell a story that inspires people to love, change, fight, and live.

How many chapters is your story going to have?

I'm currently looking at a series with five books total. This first story will have 35-36 chapters.

Is it fanfiction or original content? Where do you plan to post it?

All OG. I want to publish traditionally, but we'll see what happens.

When did you start writing?

Since I could string together semi complex thoughts and also hold a pencil lol. I've always liked writing. I started writing fanfics some time in high school, maybe around age 15. If you want to get technical, though, my first fanfiction was in elementary school and it was about young Jack Sparrow before he became THEE Jack Sparrow.

Do you have any words of encouragement for fellow writers of writeblr? What other writers do you follow?

  1. WRITE! Who cares if you think it's ass?
  2. Write the story you always wanted to read but could never find.
  3. Talk to other writers. Make friends. It can be very lonely, but having people that understand what you're doing and are also going through the same process is helpful.

I'm still working on the last one.

I follow a ton of writers on here, so I think I'll tag a bunch of people just for the hell of it.
