ramadhan is in its final phase.
the clock is ticking.
our oppurtunity to do as much ibadah with the promise of abundance of reward in the hereafter is nearing the end.
i wasted the first night and missed sahur because i was so tired (doing i dunno what)
the 2nd and 3rd night i slept with asma' at our blok's musolla. i left my warm bed but snuggled in my lovely sleeping bag at the surau. (konon2 iktikaflah hehe). alhamdulillah i could wake up for qiyam.
last night, there was a discussion at the surau so i slept in my room. i woke up just in time for sahur.
Ya Allah, please help me to become more rajin in performing my ibadahs.
and please let me find my misplaced usrah book.
My virtual space to connect with family and friends. A record of the important happenings in my life, and an outlet for my scattered thoughts and ponderings.

racism
we hear and read a lot about racism lately.
i was reading this about our fellow malaysians (i suspect they are malay muslims sbb other races just keep to themselves and dont provoke others) who attacked a few african students on their way to tarawih prayers.
how prejudiced can they be? sedihnya
this is what happens when u put race before the din. refer alhujurat ayat 11
mungkin orang africa itu lebih islamic dan dikasihi Allah drpd mereka yg melayu muslim itu.
why weren't these malaysians on their way for tarawih?
its ramadhan. and syaitan diikat. the syaitans definitely weren't worried as they had left enough advocates to do their jobs instead.
kesimpulannya: malaysians are racist. knowing this, we should start with reminding ourselves and those around us that the ultimate factor differentiating us in ranks is our taqwa. (alhujurat:13)

something i have to work on..
it's been ages since the last time i updated. i just didn't feel like writing.
throughout this month of ramadhan i've been fortunate to have the oppurtunity to attend several good talks on ramadhan and others such as ustaz Arif Nazri (former imam of IIUM gombak mosque), brother azman from iium gombak, pak cahyadi takariawan (author of Di jalan dakwah aku menikah), daurah juz amma by ustaz aadtif. i have been meaning to write about them but procrastination and my hesitation got the better of me. i'll have to refer to the notes i jotted down later.
the only thing i can remember at the top of my mind is the daurah given by bro-in-law, abg atep. surprisingly, i wasn't even sleepy throughout his presentations even though there were many amongst my friends yag telah menjadi syahidah. he explained the gist of tafsir surah an-nas until al-fil in a way that was very interesting and pointed out new aspects that i have never been taught or discussed before. rase macam bersemangat je nak try out his method of explanation.

Almighty God, Thou has created the human body with infinite wisdom.
Ten thousand times ten thousand organs hast Thou combined in it that act unceasingly and harmoniously to preserve the whole in all its beauty the body which is the envelope of the immortal soul.
They are ever acting in perfect order, agreement and accord.
Yet, when the frailty of matter or the unbridling of passions deranges this order or interrupts this accord, then forces clash and the body crumbles into the primal dust from which it came.
Thou sendest to man diseases as beneficent messengers to foretell approaching danger and to urge him to avert it.
Thou has blest Thine earth, Thy rivers and Thy mountains with healing substances; they enable Thy creatures to alleviate their sufferings and to heal their illnesses.
Thou hast endowed man with the wisdom to relieve the suffering of his brother, to recognize his disorders, to extract the healing substances, to discover their powers and to prepare and to apply them to suit every ill.
In Thine Eternal Providence Thou hast chosen me to watch over the life and health of Thy creatures.
I am now about to apply myself to the duties of my profession.
Support me, Almighty God, in these great labors that they may benefit mankind, for without Thy help not even the least thing will succeed.
Inspire me with love for my art and for Thy creatures.
Do not allow thirst for profit, ambition for renown and admiration, to interfere with my profession, for these are the enemies of truth and of love for mankind and they can lead astray in the great task of attending to the welfare of Thy creatures.
Preserve the strength of my body and of my soul that they ever be ready to cheerfully help and support rich and poor, good and bad, enemy as well as friend.
In the sufferer let me see only the human being.Illumine my mind that it recognize what presents itself and that it may comprehend what is absent or hidden.
Let it not fail to see what is visible, but do not permit it to arrogate to itself the power to see what cannot be seen, for delicate and indefinite are the bounds of the great art of caring for the lives and health of Thy creatures.
Let me never be absent-minded.
May no strange thoughts divert my attention at the bedside of the sick, or disturb my mind in its silent labors, for great and sacred are the thoughtful deliberations required to preserve the lives and health of Thy creatures.
Grant that my patients have confidence in me and my art and follow my directions and my counsel.
Remove from their midst all charlatans and the whole host of officious relatives and know-all nurses, cruel people who arrogantly frustrate the wisest purposes of our art and often lead Thy creatures to their death.
Should those who are wiser than I wish to improve and instruct me, let my soul gratefully follow their guidance; for vast is the extent of our art.
Should conceited fools, however, censure me, then let love for my profession steel me against them, so that I remain steadfast without regard for age, for reputation, or for honor, because surrender would bring to Thy creatures sickness and death.
Imbue my soul with gentleness and calmness when older colleagues, proud of their age, wish to displace me or to scorn me or disdainfully to teach me.
May even this be of advantage to me, for they know many things of which I am ignorant, but let not their arrogance give me pain.
For they are old and old age is not master of the passions.
I also hope to attain old age upon this earth, before Thee, Almighty God!
Let me be contented in everything except in the great science of my profession.
Never allow the thought to arise in me that I have attained to sufficient knowledge, but vouchsafe to me the strength, the leisure and the ambition ever to extend my knowledge.
For art is great, but the mind of man is ever expanding.Almighty God!
Thou hast chosen me in Thy mercy to watch over the life and death of Thy creatures.
I now apply myself to my profession.
Support me in this great task so that it may benefit mankind, for without Thy help not even the least thing will succeed.

enjoying ramadhan
taken from kak aliya's blog. (boleh eh kak aliya)
advice from Umm Bilal during her talk on Ramadhan:
just as i was starting to feel left behind and burdened by the thought of the things that i should have been able to do rather what i have done in this month, these words are a wonderful reminder of how best to approach ramadhan.
aim high and enjoy the ride.
aim high as in listing down all the things i want to achieve and improve and enjoying the ibadah while i'm at it :)
in the mean time go here.
advice from Umm Bilal during her talk on Ramadhan:
Just ENJOY ramadhan. Don’t count how many rakaats or juz you have done or read. If you are starting to count, then stop. even if you pray two extra rakaat in ramadhan (more than your usual fard) but you enjoy it (physically and spiritually), then it is better for you than praying 8-20 rakaats or finishing the Quran 3-4 times. if you are too tired (mothers frequently are), even reading the same surah the whole day, as long as you enjoy it and take it in and tadabbur, it is better than reading pages and pages of the Quran.

we tend to focus on some people and forget the struggle of others.
remember them the next time your at the ramadhan bazaar and can't decide what food to buy!

LETTERS FROM THE WORLD PROGRAM
FREE GAZA MOVEMENT ANNOUNCES POSTAL SERVICE TO GAZA
In August 2008 the Free Gaza Movement shattered the Israeli blockade of
the Gaza Strip by peacefully sailing from Cyprus to Gaza and back again.
It was the first time in over forty years that international ships docked
in Gaza Port, and the first time in over sixty years that Palestinians
freely entered and exited their own country.
On September 22nd the Free Gaza Movement will return to Gaza to
demonstrate that the sea lanes between Gaza and the rest of the world have
been permanently opened, and we're going to take the mail with us!
Currently, all mail sent to Palestinians from abroad must first be
delivered to Israel. Mail is regularly blocked by Israel and prevented
from being delivered to the people of Gaza. We believe that the mail must
go through, so we're going to take it in ourselves.
The Free Gaza Movement is announcing two programs for delivering mail to
Gaza: Family & Friends, and Letters from the World.
FAMILY & FRIENDS PROGRAM
If you have family or friends in Gaza and would like to send them a
letter, then please place the letter in an unsealed envelope, and address
the envelope in both Arabic and English. Place this envelope in a larger
envelope and mail it to:
Family & Friends Mail to Gaza
Free Gaza Movement
P.O. Box 5341
Beverly Hills, CA 90209-5341
USA
Please DO NOT send money, checks, packages, or valuable items. We CANNOT
accept money, valuables, or packages - only letters.
LETTERS FROM THE WORLD PROGRAM
If you do not know anyone in Gaza, but would like to get to know someone,
we want to help you try and find a pen pal. This program is available to
people of all ages and from all places in the world. We would especially
like to encourage schools to participate in the Letters from the World
Program.
Place your letter in an unsealed envelope, and address the envelope to the
type of person you would like it to be delivered to (for example: "For an
8-year-old girl," or "For a male high school student," "For a teacher,"
"For a fishermen," etc...). Please include your email address if possible.

ramadhan and post mukhayyam
its day 4 of ramadhan and i'm rather behind in my Quranic reading. alamak kene read a lot more. tp kene tadabbur jugak ayat2 tu kan?? we do our best inshaAllah.
last weekend we had a mukhayyam at Casuearina resort, Pekan. despite the long holidays yang menggamit ramai untuk pulang ke rumah, many still could make it to the mukhayyam. on the whole, i learnt a lot. what i learnt is never go into paya bakau without proper shoes or they'll sink and get stuck in the mud and you'll have to dig with your hands to get them out. we learnt a lot about the ghazwahs and also sahabat and tabi'in in interesting ways. i guess its easier to remember that way rather than the regular halaqah discussions, which is still a good way for most of the fikrah and ilmiah discussions.
i had to be a group leader and also the ajk kesihatan so kesian my group when i was a bit late for the gatherings. my group asyek lambat je sampai kene denda. sian kitorang
abang atif came to give the pengisians. menarik jugak.
i thought i had it bad because of my vasovagal attacks, but a friend of mine has it worst when she passed out because of hypothermia (sejuk sangat pakai baju basah lepas keluar paya bakau). she has a history for passing out during stressful situations.
i'm thankful for everything i am. ada hikmahnya inshaAllah.
yesterday, i clerked a patient with teratoma. i took a long time detailing out her social history. more on that later.
happy fasting everyone.
