FWSQAL

Homeward Bound, Calico Puzzle, Kitchen Woodbox and  Snowball are my latest blocks to finish.
I have decided to put a 1" white border around each block and then alternate those with red and blue pinwheel FourX blocks.  It does not show very well in the picture but my light colored fabric in the 6 1/2 inch blocks isn't white - it's a light tan with tiny blue stars.  I am going to use a straight setting instead of on point - but I like the illusion of on point blocks that the pinwheels FourXs create.

I may not be able to make all of the (complicated) blocks so I guess I am not really doing a Farmer's Wife Sampler quilt. This is no big surprise to me as it seems like I always change something as I go along no matter how much I start out wanting to follow a pattern.

Edit - my alternate red/blue blocks are not pinwheels. In EQ5 they are called FourX

TUSAL

My goodness, I was so sure I would be adding so many orts to my TUSAL jar this month. I must confess I have not added even one tiny little ort since my last photo session. I don't believe I will be making any predictions for the coming month.

Computer woes

My computer has been very untrustworthy for the last few days.  My dear husband has been able to back up my files and bring it back to life but it does continue to shut itself off periodically.  I fear this poor old dinosaur may need to be replaced soon.  If it should finally cease to work altogether I am hoping it won't take too long to replace it and learn a new operating system.  I don't think my EQ5 is supported if I upgrade the operating system but I am hoping it will function for the limited use I make of it.

Farmer's Wife

Here are the blocks I did this week. I have noticed there are some blocks that have a lot of very small pieces. I am wondering how those will turn out for me? In any event I am saving a file of some other basic (easier) blocks found in my EQ5 library that might work better for me in a 6.5 inch block format.
These blocks are:
Basket (still needs the handle)
Friendship
Puss in the Corner (but I see I didn't finish the corners)
Big Dipper
Bow Tie
Churn Dash

Farmer's Wife Sampler

I did start over with my sampler blocks. I didn't really have enough of any red, white or blue to do all of the blocks so I am using my stash to do a bit of a scappy patriotic theme. It feels so right and makes me smile so I am glad I started over.  I was hoping to have six blocks but I cut and sewed the sixth block twice and it's still wrong.  It reminds me of a co worker my dear sweet husband knew years ago who often said "I've cut it off twice now but it's still too short."
These blocks are:
Attic Windows
Basket Weave
Economy
Autumn Tints
Box (I changed the color layout on this one)

The Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt

I could not resist starting this quilt when I saw how many bloggers were in the quilt along and how pretty their blocks were. I am using some moda marbles and a jelly roll called Treasures & Tidbits (Piece O'Cake) that I won from Freda's Hive (thank you Nanette, for having the giveaway).

The book is available at Amazon (click on the picture for more information).

After viewing my first 3 blocks, I am thinking I may start over and use red/white and blue fabric.
I have another quilt pattern in mind for the jelly roll so I will puzzle over that while I work on some sampler blocks.
