Recurriendo a conceptos de la sociología de la religión de Max Weber y de Peter L. Berger, en este texto propongo que el discurso meritocrático adquiere funciones epistemológicas y sociopolíticas propias de una teodicea; esto es, que funge como un conjunto de conocimiento mágico-religioso socialmente objetivado, con distintos grados de complejidad teórica, que justifica y dota de sentido, en una sociedad, los privilegios de unos y las carencias de otros.

This dissertation seeks to provide a solution to the declining Evangelical influence in the United States, particularly among Generation Z. The rise in number of those who do not subscribe to a particular religion (“nones”) has doubled in the last five years even amidst a steady church attendance and participation in religious activities. The popular Evangelical evaluation of this problem includes the idea that the cause is a lack or an insufficient amount of theology taught and learned. The popular response has been to increase theological knowledge churches and other places of learning. I am proposing, however, given the post-modern structures and commitments in our culture, that exclusive cognitivist solutions no longer work and something else must take its place. Research shows that theory and practice are both essential pedagogical tools for learning. This general principle is true and applicable, not only in secular settings, but in sacred settings as well. So, to inculcate a strong, flourishing, and God-honoring faith, Christian leaders must commit to deploying this theory-practice pedagogy aimed at Generation Z who happen to already be predisposed to accepting it.

Berger khi ông đề cập tới mối quan hệ giữa xã hội với con người, hay nói chính xác hơn, tới bản tính xã hội trong con người, trong cuốn sách mang tên là Invitation to Sociology xuất bản năm 1963. Đây là một quan điểm độc đáo đáng chú ý vì có thể coi lối tiếp cận này như một nỗ lực dung hòa, hay đúng hơn là vượt qua hai lối tiếp cận thường được coi là tương phản giữa Émile Durkheim và Max Weber trong cái nhìn về mối quan hệ giữa xã hội với con người.

Este artículo indaga en las principales estrategias discursivas utilizadas por El Mercurio de Santiago entre 1980 y 1986, para legitimar retroactivamente la Constitución de 1980. Para ello, se llevó a cabo una revisión de las editoriales del periódico tanto en fechas emblemáticas como de crisis políticas. El análisis llevó a la identificación de dos estrategias discursivas generales, la primera denominada "Progreso", la segunda, "El demonio y la verdad". Finalmente, se llevó a cabo una discusión teórica donde los resultados del análisis son enfrentados a elaboraciones conceptuales de los más relevantes autores que han abordado el problema de la legitimación: Max Weber, Carl Schmitt, Jürgen Habermas, Peter Berger y Thomas Luckmann.

This book addresses the relationship between religion and knowledge from a sociological perspective, taking both religion and knowledge as phenomena located within ever changing social contexts. It builds on historical foundations, but offers a distinctive focus on the changing status of religious phenomena at the turn of the twenty-first century. Including critical engagement with live debates about intelligent design and the ‘new atheism’, this collection of essays brings recent research on religious movements into conversation with debates about socialisation, reflexivity and the changing capacity of social institutions to shape human identities. Contributors examine religion as an institutional context for the production of knowledge, as a form of knowledge to be transmitted or conveyed and as a social field in which controversies about knowledge emerge.

Berger ve Luckmann’ın (2008) “gerçekliğin sosyal inşası” tezi, sosyo-kültürel gerçekliği, etkileşimci ve sistematik yapısal örüntü düzeyleri üzerinden “bütünlüklü ve ilişkisel” bir çer-çevede ele alma girişimi olarak dikkati çekmektedir. Berger ve Luckmann insan hayatının genel şartlarını ve temel yapılarını teşhis etme amacıyla “anlamı öznel ve nesnel boyutlarıyla de-rinlemesine”  irdelemişler ve anlamın; insan bilincinde yani bir beden içerisinde bir şahıs olarak sosyalleşen bireyin bilincin-deki öznel inşa ediliş dinamikleri ile nesnel toplumsal gerçeklik düzeyindeki toplumsal cisimleşmeler alanı içindeki nesnel anlam stokları arasındaki ilişkiselliğin yapılaşma dinamiklerini, tarih-sel açıdan işleyen üç ayrı diyalektik moment üzerinden analiz etmişlerdir. Bu anlamda gerçekliğin sosyal inşası tezi, sosyo-kültürel gerçekliğin öznel ve nesnel gerçeklik olarak ayrım-laşmış iki analitik alan çerçevesinde inşa ediliş, sürdürülüş ve yeniden üretiliş dinamiklerinin; “içselleştirme”, “dışsallaş-tırma” ve “nesnelleştirme” olmak üzere eş zamanlı olarak iş-leyen üç temel diyalektik moment üzerinden açıklanması giri-şimi olarak dikkat çekmektedir.

Rooted in the concepts of ‘theodicy’ and ‘alienation’, Peter L. Berger famously anatomised the social mechanics through which religion is projected from human consciousness into the cosmos as a ‘sacred canopy’ protecting against chaos and anomy.  Interweaving this with his more recent work on ‘Eurosecularity’, this chapter proposes that in Western Europe today, it is often secularity that is externalised, objectivated then internalised into subjective consciousness as taken-for-granted facticity.  The author further argues, drawing on fieldwork conducted with the British branch of the Islamic Revivalist movement the Tablighi Jama'at, that the conscious exercise of agency in ways which publicly affirm faith breaches the cognitive and normative presuppositions of the European collective conscience.  In classical Bergerian terms, such non-indigenous expressions of religion are intrinsically imbued with a disconcerting debunking potential by exposing the precariousness of the social fictions which together conspire to construct the ‘sacred canopy’ of contemporary secular actors.

Este proyecto de tesis tiene como objeto principal hacer una descripción fenomenológica del proceso de institucionalización de la Comunicación pública, entendiendo a ésta como el conjunto de procesos de producción, tratamiento, difusión y retroacción de la información que se hace pública en una sociedad y está relacionada con los temas, debates y problemas que conciernen y afectan a dicha sociedad. Como delimitación, la investigación se centrará en una de las cuatro actividades profesionales inherentes a la Comunicación pública (Demers y Lavigne, 2007: 70), el periodismo, que es una práctica altamente institucionalizada en la sociedad contemporánea.

El concepto de institucionalización que se adopta en la investigación, y que será el eje del marco teórico, está fundamentado en la Sociología Fenomenológica desarrollada por Alfred Schutz y posteriormente continuada y expandida por Thomas Luckmann y Peter Berger.

Para responder las interrogantes y desarrollar el trabajo descriptivo, se proyecta el uso de las técnicas de la etnografía y la entrevista a profundidad, aplicadas al estudio de caso del periodismo realizado en la televisión pública, caso que además ha sido poco profundizado en los estudios de periodismo en el país; geográficamente, se limitará a la ciudad de Guadalajara.

This article examines the thought of Rabbi Jonathan Sacks, one of the
most important and prolific thinkers in Modern Jewish Orthodoxy today, about inter-religious pluralism. I suggest that the religious-pluralistic thought of Sacks is strongly influenced by and connected to secularization processes in the modern era as described in the sociological theory of Peter Berger. I show how his thought is the product of a ‘secularized consciousness’, but at the same time also expresses a resistance to secularization in order to fortify the status and role of religion in the modern era.
In the second part of the article I content that the religious-pluralism theory of Rabbi Jonathan Sacks cannot be fully understood without a close examination of interests and power relations, which influence, and perhaps even shape and determine his religious ideology. In other words, this part shows how the political and the theological are intertwined, leading to opinions and conclusions that appear to be different from what might have initially been expected.

Este texto pretende explicar el aumento de la violencia intrafamiliar durante la pandemia con una hipótesis que abre la posibilidad para reflexionar más sobre el tema, a partir de la psicología social y de algunas investigaciones sobre la violencia.

ABSTRACT
This text aims to explain the increase in domestic violence during the pandemic with a hypothesis that opens the possibility to reflect more on the subject, based on social psychology and some research on violence.

Peter L. Berger famously argued that any scientific inquiry into religious matters must be “methodologically atheistic.” But methodological atheism performs no proper normative function in the academic study of religion; it fabricates, trivializes, and renders inexplicable religious experience; it is not neutral or objective; and the argument for its normativity improperly legitimates a secular worldview. Furthermore, the argument for the normativity of methodological agnosticism suffers some of the same flaws and has distinctive flaws of its own, including hindering scholars from articulating good reasons to believe that certain religious experiences are delusions and, in its global variety, self-referential incoherence.

Few octogenarians command intellectual respect like Peter Berger. His prolific oeuvre, spanning half a century, includes several classics which have shaped both the sociology of knowledge and the sociology of religion. In the 1960s, Berger was a key proponent of secularisation, a theory which essentially posits that the constituent components of modernisation—rationality, bureaucratisation, and the emergence of social institutions from the shadow of ecclesiastical control—collectively tend towards religious decline. More recently, reflecting a broader shift in the discipline, Berger has recanted his earlier views, declaring them untenable in the face of global empirical evidence. If secularisation theory is not defensible, what should replace it? In this, his latest book, Berger sketches the rudiments of an alternate paradigm—rooted in the phenomenon of pluralism—and sets out to synthesise some of his earlier insights with the seemingly implacable verve of a global religious landscape.

In sum, this is an eminently readable attempt by a leading sociologist of religion theoretically to interrogate the contemporary religious landscape. The title derives from Nietzsche whose anguished forebodings over a century ago proclaimed a future of abandoned, desolate altars. What has instead transpired, maintains Berger, is a proliferation of altars, as the religious impulse refracted through the prism of modernity. Why this should be so will no doubt continue to exercise sociologists of religion for years to come.

Sosyolojik fenomenoloji yöntemine dayanan bu araştırmanın temel amacı Türkiye Sosyalist Solunun anlam sistemindeki temel unsurları ve anlam sistemlerini nasıl inşa ettiklerini betimlemektir. Bu betimleme üzerinden sosyalist anlam sistemi ile geleneksel dinsel anlam sistemleri arasındaki benzerlikler keşfedilmekte ve çözümlenmektedir. Böylelikle dinsel deneyimin modern kültürel dönüşümle farklı formlarda kendini gösterdiğini ortaya koymak ve moderniteyle birlikte dinin toplumsal hayatta etkisinin azaldığı yönündeki klasik sekülerleşme kuramına yönelik kritiklere katkı sunmak çalışmanın amaçları arasındadır.
Tarihsel bir aktarımla Türkiye Sosyalist Solunda beş akımın belirgin olduğu iddia edilmektedir. Araştırma kapsamında Türkiye’de aktif faaliyet yürüttüğü tespit edilen otuz iki sosyalist grup arasından işçi sınıfı merkezli solu temsilen Devrimci İşçi Partisi, radikal solu temsilen Ezilenlerin Sosyalist Partisi, yeni solu temsilen Halkevleri, kimlik merkezli solu temsilen AKA-DER / Kaldıraç Dergisi ve cumhuriyetçi solu temsilen Halkın Kurtuluş Partisi örnek gruplar olarak seçilmiştir. Bu grupların mensupları ile gerçekleştirilen görüşmeler ve yayınlarının taranmasının yanı sıra dil dışı semboller ve ritüeller de birer veri kaynağı olarak değerlendirilmiştir.
Araştırma boyunca çift yönlü bir kodlama, kategorileştirme ve tematik betimleme yürütülmüştür. Bir taraftan din kuramları ve dinler tarihi üzerine yürütülen okumalar diğer taraftan saha araştırması ve kaynak taraması sonucunda belirlenen şu yedi tema altında sosyalist anlam sisteminin dinsel niteliği gösterilmektedir: Ontolojik Güvenlik Kaynağı Olarak Sosyalist Anlam Sistemi, Kolektif Belleğin Kurulması, Ölüm Fikriyle Mücadele, Kişilik Kültünün Oluşturulması, Mekânın ve Zamanın Kutsallaşması, Zorunlu Kutsal Şiddet Olarak Devrim Fikri ve Sosyalist Ahlak ve Topluluk.
Türkiye Sosyalist Solu örneğinde sosyalist anlam sisteminin geleneksel dinsel anlam sistemleri gibi üç temel özelliğe sahip olduğu söylenebilmektedir: maddi ve sosyal gerçekliği bütünsel bir biçimde anlama ihtiyacını cevaplayarak insanı belirsizlik tehdidinden korumak, kutsal bir ontolojik statüye yerleşerek kültürel kurumsallaşmaların sorgulanmaksızın sürekliliğini sağlamak ve topluluk yoluyla ahlaki kontrolü gerçekleştirmek. Bu üç özellikle dinin din olmayandan ayrılarak tanımlanması sağlanmakta ve bu tanımlama ışığında araştırmanın sonuç bölümünde güncel din sosyolojisi çalışmalarına bir dizi öneride bulunulmaktadır.

Con người là một sản phẩm của xã hội.” Tư tưởng này đã khai mào cho cả một trào lưu “kiến tạo luận xã hội” thịnh hành trong giới khoa học xã hội trên thế giới vài thập niên qua, và cũng có khả năng mở ra một lối tiếp cận mới nữa mang tên là “tương quan luận phương pháp”.

В западной литературе взгляды Грегори Бейтсона широко используются в качестве метатеории, дающей более глубокое понимание сути психотерапевтических процессов и процессов изменения человека в ходе использования им традиционных культурных психотехнических практик  . Мы полагаем, что использование теории логических уровней в качестве такой метатеории даёт не только новую парадигму понимания, но и может стать основой для конструирования новых техник и приёмов психотерапии и консультирования.

Cet article présente et discute la théorie de l’institution développée par le sociologue allemand Arnold Gehlen (1904-1976). Cette théorie, peu connue en France mais influente dans les sciences sociales contemporaines, repose sur l’hypothèse selon laquelle les institutions sociales découlent de la nature biologiquement imparfaite de l’espèce humaine. L’article explore les implications scientifiques et politiques de cette hypothèse, en particulier l’impossibilité de penser l’apprentissage personnel et le dissensus politique. En s’appuyant sur des apports récents, l’article propose enfin d’esquisser une perspective relationnelle et dynamique des institutions en développant une approche de l’incertitude dans la vie sociale opposée à celle de Gehlen.

Hemen belirtmek gerekir ki Yaratan; herhangi bir dinin kitabında inanılması istenen ve istendiği şekliyle inanılmış ilah değil,  insanın kendi aklıyla-kendisince ulaştığı; bulduğu ve dolayısıyla o şekliyle bilip tanıdığı(bireysel olarak oluşturduğu) din-dışı ilah” anlamına gelmektedir. Tanrı-âlem ilişkisi konusundaki tutumuna baktığımızda deizm, âlemin İlah tarafından yaratıldığını kabul eder bu yüzden “Yaradancılık” tır. Bir yaratan öngördüğünden dolayı da ateistlerden ayrılır ama teistik ml’minler gibi de değildir çünkü yaratanın, yarattıktan sonra âleme müdahalesini reddeder. Bu yönüyle Tanrı, müdahale etmeyen; uzak; pasif yaratandır. Hâlbuki yaratanın vahiy göndermesi bile Tanrının âleme doğrudan bir müdahalesidir. Dolayısıyla deizmde ilah, bireysel akılın ilahıdır. Kişiden kişiye değişebilen bireysel ve bireyin bu şekliyle kendi kişisel kutsallarını üretebildiği bir içeriktir bu. Hâlbuki kitabi/klasik/resmi din anlayışlarında dinlerin kutsal anlayışı bellidir. Dinler kendi kitabi/klasik/resmi akidesine ve teorilerine yaslanır yani bireysel ve bireyin ürettiği kendi kişisel kutsallarını refere etmez/ esas almaz.

Cet article vise à défendre le lien entre conversion morale et autonomie. Pour cela, nous nous appuierons sur plusieurs perspectives philosophiques et sociologiques qui ont en commun de mettre en avant la capacité de l’individu à rompre avec sa situation morale initiale, que celle-ci soit politique ou religieuse, pour endosser de nouvelles convictions. Nous verrons que trois notions d’origine aussi différente que le changement de Gesinnung chez Kant, l’instant sartrien et l’alternation chez Berger et Luckmann renvoient à un processus de fondation de soi qui marque le choix entre des systèmes de valeurs incommensurables en même temps qu’une prise de position du converti sur son régime d’appartenance. Cela nous conduira à aborder de front le problème de la possibilité, pour un individu, de maîtriser ses convictions les plus profondes et son identité morale au point de pouvoir en changer par un acte de volonté. C’est précisément cet acte que nous définirons comme la décision d’auto-réification constitutive du sujet autonome.

Peter L. Berger (1929-2017) was one of the most influential sociologists of the twentieth century.  His sizeable oeuvre includes several classics such as The Social Construction of Reality: A Treatise in the Sociology of Knowledge named by the International Sociological Association in 1998 as the twentieth century’s fifth most influential work of sociology.  This session examines Berger’s work on religion and its relevance for the study of contemporary Islam.  It explores the three-pronged process through which he suggests reality is socially constructed and deploys the concepts of primary and secondary socialisation to examine identity construction among British Muslims.  Berger’s life-long fascination with the sociological dynamics of pluralism is also highlighted, especially the idea that a serious exposure to alternative world-views undermines the certainty of one’s own.  His work on secularisation is critically examined and students are introduced to the way in which his personal faith commitment led to a genre of books that interface sociology and theology.

This interview offers a historical reconstruction of Eviatar Zerubavel's work, from his pioneering studies of time to his not-yet-published analysis of "concept-driven sociology," running the gamut of Zerubavel's career and embracing a period of more than forty years of sociological research. The interview encompasses several major topics: the beginnings of Zerubavel's own intellectual path and his move from Israel to the United States; the nuts and bolts of sociology of time and cognitive sociology; the underlying theoretical framework of a transcontextual and comparative mode of social inquiry; an in-depth analysis of the last books which Zerubavel has devoted to the study of phenomena such as backgroundness and taken-for-grantedness; the range of his academic and intellectual relationships (especially the one with his mentor Goffman, but also his rapport with Peter Berger, Lewis Coser, Renée Fox, and Murray Davis, among others); the polymorphic connection between sociological theory and politics; the development of the so-called "Rutgers School of Sociology"; the issue of "public sociology"; the future of sociology and academic research.

Reification, fetishism, alienation, mastery, and control – these are some of the key concepts of modernity that have been battered and beaten by postmoderns and nonmoderns alike, with Bruno Latour, a nonmodern, discarding them most recently. Critical of this approach, which creates a rift between moderns and nonmoderns, the author engages in dialogue with modern thinkers – particularly Peter Berger, Thomas Luckmann and Stanley Pullberg – with a view to recycling and redefining the concept of reification from a nonmodern perspective. Marxian scholars associate reification with an attitude of detachment and passivity. Drawing on two years of ethnographic fieldwork in a Luvale-speaking region of northwest Zambia, Africa, the author seeks to convert the negative and asymmetrical Marxian reading of reification, which places subjects above objects, to a positive symmetry. Marx explained the capitalist economy through the lens of religion. Reversing the direction of symmetrical comparison, the author considers the northwestern Zambian universe of ancestors and their different mahamba manifestations in the form of spiritual beings, diseased bodies and material objects through the lens of Marxian concepts, mainly reification and fetishism. Three aspects of reification understood as a human universal come to light: first, reification and animation entail each other both in the realms of materiality (human bodies and material objects) and immateriality (concepts and spirits), being best perceived as a form of fetishism. Reifacts are fetishes and fetishes are reifacts. Second, because fetishes are animated and do things, reification is a form of engagement with the world, a means to action and a tool for transformation. Third and last, and without contradiction, reification entails engagement and detachment, action and withdrawal, control and surrender. There is much to gain from recycling the old concept of reification. In a non-partisan symmetrical perspective, the redefinition of reification as fetishism yields a new, positive understanding of the place of material and immaterial things in social life and the ways in which we humans apprehend the world and implicate those things  in our projects and struggles. Reification is not an impediment to action but a condition for action.

Os saberes e competências necessários para a realização de pesquisa acadêmica não integravam a rotina profissional dos músicos performers até o momento da inserção da Música no nível da pós-graduação, no ano de 1980. Esse fato histórico colocou os músicos diante de questões que implicaram o ajuste de seu conhecimento artístico numa estrutura pré-estabelecida por áreas do conhecimento distantes da realidade musical, gerando diferentes mobilizações estruturais e subjetivas nesse contexto. Trata-se de uma relação dialética, em que os músicos precisam se adequar a uma estrutura pré-estabelecida, que pode vir a ser modificada através de suas próprias ações. Assim, este estudo buscou compreender as diferentes formas por meio das quais os músicos da subárea Performance musical se relacionam com a pesquisa acadêmica desenvolvida no espaço da pós-graduação brasileira, evidenciando quais são as crenças, os valores e visões de mundo que orientam os diferentes graus de envolvimento com essa atividade.

Death and the Persistence of Meaning

As a force death is something which is an essential part of life yet we rarely ever come to examine how it plays upon us. Our awareness of our mortality as a fundamental flaw but vital limit upon our existence creates conditions which are taken for granted as part of life. Like gravity death has always been a force for the living to consider so much so that it is equally taken for granted. However as we live the risk of death as well as our awareness and experiences of it still demonstratively affect us. Of these, direct experiences of death most visibly and profoundly confront us in life. When loved ones die it throws up a progeny of emotion and thought which no other situation compares to. Here I examine our reactions to personal loss and try to show how we possibly shelter and protect ourselves from existential concerns and considerations which death provokes. Religion in particular is examined as system of meaning which we turn to in order to ease our anxieties and concerns regarding death and broader meaning in life. Age is also considered as a factor in terms of possible increased planning and preparation for death in both practical and spiritual terms.

En este trabajo me propuse esbozar los fundamentos de una aproximación fenomenológica trascendental a problemáticas sociales. Esta aproximación gira en torno al concepto de “acto social” que fue desarrollado de manera incipiente por Edmund Husserl y Adolf Reinach. Así que gran parte de la tesis gira en torno a la ampliación y reelaboración de este concepto en el marco de la teoría de la intencionalidad y de la racionalidad dóxica, axiológica y práctica expuesta por Edmund Husserl en obras póstumas de reciente publicación.
El marco conceptual de la misma es una exposición sistemática de la ética husserliana y de su relación con la axiología, la epistemología y la teoría de la intersubjetividad. A partir de él he intentado pensar los actos sociales, que abarcan comunicaciones y actos que se fundan en comunicaciones —como promesas, órdenes, peticiones, prescripciones, etc.—, como intenciones prácticas intersubjetivas en las que se constituyen relaciones sociales. Asimismo he tratado de mostrar que la fenomenología trascendental proporciona herramientas conceptuales para llevar a cabo una crítica de los actos sociales concretos y por ende de las relaciones sociales concretas en términos de si son relativamente racionales, o incluso en términos de si son racionales conforme al ideal ético de empeñarse en vivir la vida más valiosa posible. Esto último implica someterse al imperativo de actuar de la mejor manera posible en todos los respectos de nuestra existencia y de que todas nuestras acciones se basen en creencias, ponderaciones y deliberaciones prácticas que las justifiquen.
Me valgo entonces del concepto de acto social para pensar en una serie de fenómenos que están a la base de distintas problemáticas sociales y particularmente políticas. En esta reflexión me acerqué también a otros pensadores de peso que se inscriben en otras perspectivas filosóficas y en otras disciplinas del saber. Entre ellos están Alfred Schütz, Thomas Luckmann, Peter Berger, Hannah Arendt, John Searle, Joel Migdal, Luis Villoro y Max Weber, entre otros. Como resultado de esta reflexión he acuñado distintos conceptos que considero que permiten plantear distintas problemáticas sociales, éticas y políticas bajo una nueva luz. This dissertation seeks to provide a solution to the declining Evangelical influence in the United States, particularly among Generation Z. The rise in number of those who do not subscribe to a particular religion (“nones”) has doubled in the last five years even amidst a steady church attendance and participation in religious activities. The popular Evangelical evaluation of this problem includes the idea that the cause is a lack or an insufficient amount of theology taught and learned. The popular response has been to increase theological knowledge churches and other places of learning. I am proposing, however, given the post-modern structures and commitments in our culture, that exclusive cognitivist solutions no longer work and something else must take its place. Türkiye’de sekülerleşme teorisi ile ilgili iddia sahibi olanların önemli bir bölümü, derslerinde, akademik üretimlerinde, gazetelerin yorum sayfalarında, katıldıkları televizyon programlarında, davetli oldukları
konferanslarda ve hatta sosyal medya hesaplarında ünlü din sosyoloğu Peter Berger’e atıfla sekülerleşme teorisinin çöktüğünü iddia etmektedir. Bahsi geçen bu kitle genellikle şu yaklaşımı benimsemektedir: “Daha önce sekülerleşme teorisini savunan Peter Berger artık fikrini değiştirmiştir, o nedenle sekülerleşme tezi çökmüştür ve dolayısıyla Türkiye’deki dönüşüm sekülerleşme teorisi ile açıklanamaz.” Bu iddia Türkiye’de sıklıkla kullanılmasına rağmen, detaylara inilmediği için Berger’in hangi verilere dayanarak fikrini değiştirdiğini ve modernleştiği halde dindarlaşan hangi toplumlardan bahsettiğini anlamak mümkün görünmemektedir. Bu makalenin yazılmasının sebebi de Berger’in geniş bir kitle tarafından kabul edilen fikirlerini/iddialarını sekülerleşme teorisi bağlamında değerlendirmek ve hem Berger’in hem de “teori çöktü” iddiası için onu referans gösterenlerin yaptıkları açık yöntemsel sorunları
tartışmaktır. O nedenle, bu çalışma sekülerleşme kavramını ve sekülerleşme teorisinin ne olduğunu kısaca açıkladıktan sonra, Berger’in teorideki ve yöntemdeki açmazlarını yine Berger’in en çok atıf alan
eserlerindeki 10 iddiası üzerinden okuyucuya sunmaktadır. Çalışmanın ulaştığı 4 ana sonuç şunlardır:

1. Berger, iddialarını kanıtlarla desteklememektedir. Türkiye’de en çok atıf alan 4 temel yazısında, herhangi bir kanıt ya da veri ortaya koymamaktadır.
2. Berger’in Türkiye, Amerika Birleşik Devletleri, Latin
Amerika, Avrupa ülkeleri ve İsrail ile ilgili iddialarının kısa bir araştırma yapılınca yanlışlandığı görülmektedir.
3. Berger bir toplumun sekülerleşip sekülerleşmediğini, olması gerektiği gibi o toplumu kendi tarihi ile kıyaslayarak değil, başka toplumlarla kıyaslayarak ölçmeye çalışmaktadır. Böylece Berger, sekülerleşme tartışmalarının üzerine oturduğu temel yöntemlerden birini yok saymayı seçmiş görünmektedir.
4. Berger, ömrünün son dönemlerinde, sebebi bu çalışmanın sınırlarının ötesinde olan, akademiden uzak bir üslubu benimsemiştir. Ancak ne yazık ki onun akademik hassasiyetlerinin azalması, onun iddialarını sorgulamaksızın kabul eden geniş bir akademisyen kitlesinin oluşmasını engelleyememiştir.

This article applies Berger’s new paradigm for religion in a pluralist age to the case of Russia, a society that underwent 70 years forced secularization and yet today displays great religious diversity. The analysis rests upon two major assumptions. The first is that of “multiple secularities,” meaning that societies that arrive at secularity may arrive there from very different points of departure and by following very different secularization paths, and the particular paths taken are of considerable consequence. Second is the assumption that Russia’s history of forced secularization continues to have profound implications on all aspects of the sacred and the secular in Russia today. This is explored in the areas of church-state relations; religious belief; religion and national identity; and the implications of these on what Berger calls “formulas for peace.” Throughout the analysis, Berger’s theory proves quite valuable and offers several useful lenses through which to view the relationship between the sacred and the secular in today’s Russia.

In the first part of this text, we analyze Descartes, who is considered the father of modern philosophy and also, to some extent, the founder of modern idealism, who sought to demonstrate  the  existence  of  God  and  the separation between soul and body. Descartes is undoubtedly  a  Christian  and,  for  this  very reason, he reasoned from Christian texts and Christian  theology.  Its  process  is  to  submit everything  to  doubt  as  a  general  principle. Hume, in turn, begins by differentiating the two types of approaches to moral philosophy or the science of human nature, considering that each of  them  may  not  only  interest  but  also contribute to human development. Husserl uses phenomenology  as  a  method  of  descriptive investigation.  Popper  considers  that  the hypotheses or systems of theories of the so-called  empirical  sciences,  especially  their procedures, should be submitted to the logical analysis of scientific investigation or the logic of knowledge. In the second part, we find that Schutz considers that in order to interpret and explain  human  action  and  thought,  it  is necessary to start at a point that precedes the scientific, everyday reality. It is in this everyday region in which there can be understanding, because in it there is an effective participation of man. The understanding between people, with all  the  setbacks,  challenges,  achievements, occurs exactly in this context, that of everyday reality. There the man acts, communicates. A normal, attentive person lives and acts. Berger and Luckman, in turn, propose to unveil the foundations of knowledge in everyday life. As abordagens praxiológicas na teoria social convergem na tese de que a ordem societária não constitui um dado, mas um resultado contingente de condutas cognitivamente habilidosas levadas a cabo em uma multiplicidade de cenários. O acento sobre a contingência histórica da ordem social acarreta, no entanto, investigar por que os agentes investem, afinal, na inteligibilidade, na organização e na previsibilidade dos seus contextos societários. Cada um à sua maneira, Peter Berger, Pierre Bourdieu e Anthony Giddens desaguaram na visão de que esse investimento responde a um anseio por segurança ontológica (latu sensu), um anelo vital por uma experiência do mundo e da própria existência como dotados de ordem, justificação e sentido. Com base nesses autores, o presente artigo esquadrinha os mecanismos sociopsicológicos de produção da experiência da segurança ontológica, bem como as situações-limite ou “ameaças marginais” (Berger) que perturbam essa experiência, tais como o sonho, a psicose e a morte. O trabalho recupera, assim, dimensões pouco discutidas das obras destes três discutidíssimos sociólogos, explorando a conexão entre seus retratos praxiológicos do mundo social, de um lado, e suas caracterizações “existenciais” do ser humano como um animal sedento de amparo e significação, de outro.
